Ducks Unlimited-inspired Cabin auction to benefit Ducks Unlimited!

In 2010, ACS Log Build is introducing two exclusive Ducks Unlimited Special Edition log cabins with waterfowl- and DU-inspired treatments throughout. One of the cabin designs, The Mallard, will be on display at the DU Sporting Expo at the Gaylord Texan Resort, and will be auctioned on May 29 at the DU National Convention.

The cabin is created and logs prepared with great care by an avid DU member, duck hunter and conservationist, Craig Stewart, who also has done all of the beautiful log construction for several Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops stores throughout the country.

The footprint of The Mallard cabin is 26' x 40' (1040 sq. ft.) with a 8' x 40' log front porch. The log walls are "eco-friendly," utilizing dead, dry spruce and lodge pole pine. The walls are 8" milled logs with a rustic drawknife finish and full saddle notched corners. The interior features 10-foot ceiling height, allowing for an "open-living" concept. This cabin will have a minimal butt-joint format, with full log gables, log ridge beam and post. The cabin features 10 DU-branded steel brackets that connect porch beams and posts.

The log kit will include:

• Full set of blueprints and stack sheets from Quick Draw Designs
• Full window and exterior door package from Pella Windows. Pella Pro Line, Hartford green clad exteriors. Casement window with clear wood interiors and brown window cranks.
• All log screws, lag screws and insulation tape, log builder caulk and nails
• Custom Duck Unlimited steel brackets for the front porch and ridge post
• Per assemble log package and cutting for all windows, beaver tail doors and windows and cut the gable rake
• Custom-built "rustic" camp cooler provided by Louis Hymel
• Up to 1 hour of technical support via phone and e-mail
• Timber Edge Stain for the cabin exterior

Total value: $40,998

The above represents the complete cabin package being auctioned. This does not include any labor or shipping of the log kit from Dallas, Texas. No other materials are included in this package: i.e. sub-floor, interior walls, roofing, decking or T&G. It is the responsibility of the cabin owner to ensure provided plans are engineered to meet codes in the state and/or county in which the cabin will be located. Also in this package is a detailed list of lumber to be purchased by the homeowner at a local lumberyard. The cabin designer is available for additional technical assistance or to visit the job site and assist with construction, at the owner's expense. The log kit will be stored in Dallas for the buyer at the builder's expense for up to 60 days.
